4 NEW OCTOPUS SPECIES OFF COSTA RICA’S COAST.

4 NEW OCTOPUS SPECIES OFF COSTA RICA'S COAST.

A new discovery in the depths of the ocean. A deep-sea octopus nursery has been found off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

At the same time, four new species were discovered. The discovery was made in the area of seamounts over an area of more than 100 square kilometers.

On their first expedition in June, a team of international scientists discovered two octopus nurseries connected by hydrothermal vents. And now new species have been discovered.

The expeditions were led by Beth Orcutt of the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences and Jorge Cortes-Nunez of the University of Costa Rica.

Researchers say that octopuses have chosen places on the seabed where warm springs flow for reproduction.

In total, during this expedition, more than 160 specimens of deep-sea animals were collected on the ship of the Schmidt Ocean Institute. Some of them will be presented at the Zoological Museum of the University of Costa Rica. Another 150 copies were collected earlier in June.

Scientists also discovered a deep-sea stingray nursery on top of another seamount. It was called scat park.
